Behind the Scenes of David’s “Wait” Video

I tell you his PR team is really on point this year (thanks for the link, Desertrat):

But what’s with that black screen for so many minutes? David, get thee a “professional” PR team! 🙂

In other news, I’m so excited that The Voice is back:

Funny, but I was so bored when the new season of Idol premiered but completely excited to watch The Voice (or myabe I was just in a good mood after the NY Giants won the Superbowl – woohoo!).

  1. Ok, so in the YT comments people are saying the video is 11 minutes long with bloopers at the end. All I see is a 3 minute video with no bloopers.

    • Maybe the video was fixed as there was no long period of black that HG referred to in her post. The video had 1.5 minutes of David talking about the making of the video and then the music video at the end. Yes, Embe, there were no bloppers.

I love The Voice too. I’ll be watching again tonight. The judges are fun and the talent is very good.

  2. It is getting harder to comment right now when his impending leave seems such an opposite contrast to where he is going full steam ahead loving it and the entire learning experience. The look on his face and in his smile speaks volumes.

  3. Only now that he has sacrificed his career is he able to allow himself to enjoy his success.

    (Just my impression.)

    • Very interesting point, Peter. David is making a huge sacrifice career- wise by going on a mission for 2 years. No doubt about it. I really do not agree with it either, cq, in terms of how it will effect his career. I know it is his choice . I so enjoyed “The Voice” last night too. I am watching tonight. I liked Chris Mann. Thanks for posting the video Peter.

    • That’s just a weird thing to do. It has to be almost unheard of in the history of the industry.

      SB

      • — Little Richeard took a break during his career to become a minister.

        — Al Green took a break from the industry and recording secular music at the height of his career (and after a hi profile domestic dispute) to become a minister and record gospel music.

        — Bob Dylan had a mysterious disappearance from the industry after an ‘alleged’ motorcycle accident in the late 60’s… resumed his career after a couple years away.

David putting his career on hold to pursue missionary work is neither unheard of nor unprecedented in the music industry. The above were just 3 examples that popped to mind easily of hi profile artists who left the industry for a while then returned. David’s situation is different in some ways from their’s – the music industry and the times were different during all three of those singers heydays, each IMO had more successful and thriving careers at the time they left than David, each left for various personal reasons – 2 left to pursue spiritual concerns, Dylan’s absence was rumored to be more drug or rehab related than motorcycle – but all took time away from active careers to do what they felt they had to do, regroup, and they got back in the game when they were ready. What David’s plan is after mission is over id TBD. How much he wants to get back into the game, and the demand and desire from the public to have him back in it are factors as well.

ETA – There was a SUPER HOT young rapper backed /groomed by Puff Daddy in the mid 90’s named Mase who left it all to go into the ministry. Mase was poised to clean up in the hip hop/rap game for a number of years when he left. He’s still in the ministry last I checked.

    • I want to replay this , but i feel i need HG autorization to post my opinion in this case.

    • Peter your impression is my fear. Sacrifice is often not a good thing if motivated by guilt, an idealized desire for perfection, or to undo a feeling of badness.

During a recently interview David highlighted the importance of extreme sacrifice in his decision to go on a mission. Unfortunately, the sacrificial act is unlikely to satisfy underlying needs like those above, and more self defeating behavior keeps getting repeated.

I pray Davids mission is in the works for healthy reasons. and and that the outcome is positive and long lasting. He doesn’t seem to worried about career failure.

Well said, IMO. Extremely well said.

      • I agree CAS and Peter.

  4. I enjoyed The Voice as well. I hope Chris Mann will make an album (performance starts at 1:22):

  5. I have faith that David is going to take care of his fans (career) while he is away by leaving songs recorded to be released during his absence. He also has said that he would blog or send messages when he had time during the mission. Although I respect his dicision to follow his heart, I am not aboard with him leaving and putting his career on hold for two years. Hope that the two year absence will not derail what he worked so hard to build for the past 4 years.

  6. I assume the black screen is the real “black” screen they used to overlay images when putting it together. I am no expert. However I love the black screen and artsy, in the place feel.

  7. Boo hoo- any idea why the trailers were removed? May some scenes not approved or still under edit? I was going to watch again since it went to quickly the other day….

  8. rae,

here’s a trailer video on someone’s photobucket, great that she got it because all (NA) videos were taken down, no idea why

another OPM (Original Pilipino Music) that they say David recorded, just bear with the screams, they’re too loud

  10. first tv airing of Nandito Ako with David guesting on a Filipino talent show with interview at the end

    • Rae, this is beautiful and yes, we ODD fans are so accustomed to David’s face. It’s going to be a sad day soon in Davidland when he takes off for two whole years. He’s doing so much now and there’s lots of pictures, tweets, and articles every day. Who knows what the future holds for David? He could still be very successful if he catches a lucky break when he gets back. I really enjoyed Katherine McPhee in Smash tonight. She’s 27 and it looks like she got her lucky break now. None of her records sold that well post idol.

  11. david wear red and blue yesturday, i guess he was rooting for the giants too win like charice because they both loves new york!!!!!!. aww i just love the pics with david and the boy, a little boy was front of david like ” i am taking over” haha!.

  12. you know once david go on a 2 year mission, he could be taking a big risk of possbly losing his singing career and acting gigs when he get back, i hope he is thinking and realizing that??. have a goodnite

    idolfan

  13. This makes me sad, he is leaving soon…

  14. Here’s a really good article about David and a great video at the bottom of the article. He really does understand what he is doing and is hoping that the experience makes his music better.
    http://entertainment.xin.msn.com/en/celebrity/buzz/asia/article.aspx?cp-documentid=5850862&page=2

  15. back again, i didnt see the video but again, david is soo sweet and hope he stay in touch with his fans much as possible. i just hope david knows he is taking a big risk of this siuation reguarding his career, he can back and nobody really care of him. just saying.

  16. oop i meant he can come back so on. when he does people will go ” who is david archuleta” oh “who care”. that worry me about david because he is such a gifted singer and i am sure fans are the same way too.

    • this will not happen, in Asia, all the Korea & Taiwan stars serve 2 years in army and they are back! Two years is not such a long time and he is young, he just have to start again!

      • I think 2 years is a very long time to be gone in the music industry. Music artists have “ups” and “downs” in their careers but do not usually leave entirely for 2 years. I realize a few other artists have left but I am not so sure that this will work out for David. I think if David was going to college for 2 years and still learning and doing music it would make more sense to me. I think in all honesty if you are non LDS and non religious this is very difficult to really accept and understand. At least it is for me. The other issue is what is his team doing to keep his name out there for 2 years. I have my doubts. Off topic The Voice was very entertaining last night.

    • ”he just have to start again! ”

Yeah, He ”Just ” have to start again …… still a sad perspective :/
Luckily for him he has the kind of aura that attach people to his personality … so because that he’s gonna still in the back of people minds hopefully like a good souvenir ….. and that is what can make easy his come back …. i mean if that is the case in 2015 .

      • Yes, it’s sad but whats the point of him staying around if his heart is not here. A break will be good for him..hopefully

  17. tibitibi, really?! david meant he will be back in almost 3 years, what the point david coming back with his career than in 2015, that is a very long time!. why can david just go for one year, bummer.

  18. Vlog from Singapore 😀
He looks well rested , going to see him later , woohoo

  19. Anyway , since i have not much time , i gonna take the risk risk to be polemic and going with this :

“Standing out on a street corner in Paris and having people reject something that is so valuable and important to me,” she recalls, “really helped me realize that I have a huge potential to do good here.” Elizabeth Smart ( back from her mission)

What amaze me of all this break thing, is that some people insist to name the mission ” God’s call ” ( that can be a possibility too ) but me , i wonder if David really can’t see the potential he has to really touch lives and yes, maybe to put people close to God ….. why he can’t see that maybe God gave (and still giving) to him all the opportunities to became a leader for something big and not just follower of an particular group ?
Look the tweets coming from his actor peers from Philllipines ….. he really have an effect on people …and he really still in denial ? , he just want to please the community close to his heart? is he afraid to really take control of his own spiritual path ? ( this last one is because yeah, i refuse to accept he really digest all the LDS doctrine in an unquestionable way )

In any case if his destiny is to be a Leader , Pop Star or great Actor ?????? , he can try with all his heart , mind and spirit to avoid his path , but the reality will be around him , remembering what his role should be with the opportunities he received …. because your mission David could be not be the obvious one.

  20. junnie, david can come back from his mission and changed his mind and doesnt want to sing and acting anymore, it could happen. i hope david does come back but in my opinion i think he will go to college and become a ENT doctor.

    • idolfan, I have faith that he will be back, yes may not be performing but still relating to music. he just love it too much and its in him, IMO

  21. junnie, well i truly hope so he will be back. there were rumors before that david just want to get away from the spotlight for 2 years so the only way he can do that he go on a missonary. i don’t think david’s dad jeff(MIC) would let him take 2 years off from music!?!?!? if thoses rumors are true that doesnt shocked me. again have a goodnite

  23. Sorry for the dbl post… dunno what I did or how it happened….

    • Yeah, well I wish I could say that because THOSE artists did it, it will all work out for David. But I can’t.

I just don’t want him to go. Has anyone mentioned the most obvious concern? His well-being and safety? Will he be on his own with just a “companion” or will the church make sure he has security? Of course it all depends on WHERE he is headed, but the only place in the world would be where there is no internet, no tv, no radio. Where would that be?

Or maybe David will stay close to home.

In any case, the momentum created this last month will all be for nothing and in a year the fansites will be struggling to keep the fans interested.

      • I agree that safety is a huge concern. I am very concerned about that. I hope his church spends the money and makes sure security is in place as David will need it.

      • “In any case, the momentum created this last month will all be for nothing and in a year the fansites will be struggling to keep the fans interested.” A very realistic concern. Thanks for addressing it jus’sayin.

  24. And, BTW..no one had better say THEY are a more loyal or loves David more than I do. It’s precisely because I love & admire David so very much that I am concerned and simply DO NOT WANT HIM TO GO! A year may be ok, but two years, maybe more? NO!

    • The compromise should have been a year or less. You do need to compromise in life IMO. David is young and I think he will realize this when he is older. I just hope his career is not effected as much as I think it might be by not compromising.

      • This will be a life lesson he and he alone must learn. David must live this and learn this for himself. As older adults, naturally we are assumed to have garnered some wisdom, can see the pitfalls and pros and cons of life a little more clearly… why? Because we have made decisions that were good, that were not always so good, endured the consequences of those decisions – and we learned from them, or I hope we did… David really IMO needs to experience LIFE – the good and bad in life, the actions and reactions resulting from the choices and decisions we each as individuals make. It would be unfortunate if his career was to suffer as a result of the decisions he makes along the way, but then ultimately… it is his career.

  25. David well being and safety I’m thinking has to have been a top priority for the LDS church in deciding where to place him. Just plain talk here, no harm or offense directed or meant to anyone, but I’m going to say what’s been on my mind, and in my heart…. after lots of musing and processing of a ton of mixed emotions….

There are just things in life beyond our control. Comes a time when you just have to cede it, say a prayer, turn it over to the universe or the higher power… and let it go. David’s decision to pursue this mission, for whatever reasons, was HIS decision – for his own unique, personal, internal, spiritual happiness. My happiness, life and peace of mind is not dependent upon the decisions he has made, will continue to make for his life, and his career. I’m just a fan. I can care about him, but I’m not going to allow myself to ever again get overly invested into the outcome of decisions he makes that he feels are best for HIM. I love his music, his singing voice, the potential I feel is there for true greatness. If he comes back and begins the process of resuming a music career, I’ll be very interested in hearing what he does, what direction he will be taking. I’ll listen to his music at times in the interim, and will watch the serial because it sounds like fun. 🙂
Other than that, for me, he has made the first of many tough decisions he will make in his life, there is nothing to be done except wish him Godspeed, pray for his safety and health and happiness during his 2 year commitment, and get on with living my life. If and when he returns to a music career, I’ll be waiting to hear and see what he has in store…

  26. I just think he’s gonna be more sheltered than ever !!! Life experience ? i have my doubts , with a limited communication with the real world and people telling him when , who and how to do every little thing on his life for two years , literally under 24/7 under surveillance …. idk , is just sad to see the waste of potential , and i’m not talking only about the Singer or artist , but actually about the person. 😦

And CAS and GG great posts , Thanks 🙂

    • He is just 21 yrs old 🙂 There is plenty of living for him to do, plenty of time, God willing, for him to gain valuable life experience – all contingent, of course, on if he is OPEN to receive it, and allows himself the chance to experience some new and different things. I am not going to be dramatic in thinking a 2 year hiatus to do mission work is a waste of potential either personally or from a career standpoint… David is over 21, responsible for his own decisions – and since my name is neither Lupe nor Jeff, nor Amber, Jazzy, Daniel or Claudia, I have no real standing or investment in how the decisions he makes personally or careerwise affect me. Sure, I’d love for things to be different. But there comes a time when you just have to accept what is, as bittersweet as it may be. David’s life, and career, are his to do with as he pleases. And he has shown that he is willing and able to do with it as he sees fit, regardless if his fans agree or not. Follow or fan a person like him at your own pleasure, or risk. Because nothing about being his fan is going to be easy.

  27. I have a rare day off to myself, and I’m going to spend it shopping and lunching, catching up w/old friends – will holla back later – the conversation and news are interesting 🙂

  28. Neither SB – I’ve had lotsa time to mull these things over, and this is what I think or feel… if it comes off that way it isn’t intentional. I’m just tired… tired of the rollercoaster and the all the emotional upheaval related to his decision… I’ve made my peace w/it, and am choosing to step away from the rollercoaster for a bit – because for me, after really thinking about it, and experiencing some real loss recently… it’s just not worth it… David will be coming back, hopefully to resume the pieces of a musical career, so in the meantime, I’m taking a break from active, online fandom… it’s too much right now, just too much… no scolding, or preaching – just a burnt out fan who’s going to use these 2 years to regroup, and find the joy in being a simple fan again 🙂

    • Fair enough GG. I am just full up of the religious talk of one religion and it’s values as if it is the only religion known to mankind when indeed it is only one of many fine religions in this world. The sooner he goes perhaps the sooner the preaching will end. I realize that you are not talking religion.

You know on one hand we are to look at this young man as a singer but then quickly it turns into his religious beliefs and we just don’t need anything but the music he has offered, anything else after that is private.
