Change of Heart!

See, I told you all I needed to hear the full song to have a different perspective.

Now that I’ve heard the full song (which I think you can only hear it once), all I have to say is:

Nah, the fetus can’t touch this!

Sorry for the insult, Jive (though I will still keep my discerning and suspicious eyes on you as far as David is concerned).

This is going to be huge! 😀

holy cow HG: I was just going to comment and say YOU MUST HEAR THE WHOLE SONG. Brillant single. Amazing arrangement-
This is going to be the summer of Archuleta.
He had better be takin good notes for the next book… 🙂

The bridge and the low register after the bridge!!!!!! The cool effects ( a la Owl City) . This song is amazing. David seriously rocks it.

Valbraz, just saw your comment on my previous thread. I know what you mean, kinda, but this song is clearly being marketed to a certain segment.

Urban it ain’t, and I think David will probably get out some of these types of pop hits before he gets to really dig into his “Soul David” vibe.

If churning out summer hits will get him there eventually, then I can tolerate this brand of pop music, especially if it’s fun.

I agree “Something ‘Bout Love” is soooo not superior to “Crush” in any sense, but it’s a fun song, I will give it that. And, honestly, it’s the kind of song a Jive label would put out (it’s more dance than urban, more Chris Brown-Forever-vibe than Usher-OMG, you know what I mean?).

Does that make this “dated”? We’ll have to see. If radio pushes it, the song will be a hit, period.

As for Bieber being “edgier” … really? I mean, have you heard “Baby” and “Eenie Meenie Minie Moe Lover”? Ugh!

At least “Something ‘Bout Love” has a melody!

    • No. Bieber is not at all edgy. I am just angry, HG.

By the way, I like the verse for David’s amazing lower register. But don’t get me started on that chorus! It’s an assault to the senses – not in a good way!

I’ll have to do major TCA voting to make up for this bad-fan behaviour.

You will not be forced to do any penance here, Valbraz! 😉

Except you are strongly advised to play SBL on a loop until you start to love it!

David’s lower register is to die for! 🙂

      • Val, you and I are in the same boat.

I actually think David is going for the La Roux “Bulletproof” / Owl City / Lights vibe, it also reminds me alot of Erasure’s “Oh l’Amour” which I love but I don’t think it ever made it on the US Pop Charts in its day (more a club hit)…one of the main things lacking for me though I think are the lyrics…especially the verses. I think they could be a lot more interesting – quirkier, you know? Especially the second verse. I also think there are a couple parts where the song could have been sped up more or built up more for more effect…idk how to explain what I mean …

On the whole though I like it better having heard the full song, still think it might be too sweet for my pop stations, it will depend if they want to latch on to that trend or stay more urban..

And now I will go back into seclusion :-\

      • Cosette, don’t go back into seclusion. It’s ok if everyone isn’t crazy over the song. 🙂 Here are my confessions: I disliked “Save the Day” so much that I never listened to it in it’s entirety. And that duet w/Miley, I laughed when someone said it could be the next “No Air”.

      • lol Desertrat!!!!! Never heard an anti-Save the Day rant before lol!

My confession has to be “Desperate” … I know some like it but for me…eeep…just can’t take it.

Anyway, thank you for your support 😀

The key change after the bridge!!! whoo.. love it. 🙂 Doing the happy dance.

    • rae, my daughter, who is 9, just commented about how she loves that very part! LOL *dances with you*

Rae, the vocals are on point! 🙂 The only thing I would want for “Something ‘Bout Love” is all in the production: I want a little more bass (hmmm, is that what you mean by “edge” Valbraz?).

But then, I’m a rhythm-n-blues gal, so I need that extra boom to get me moving.

    • raelovingangels

Yes- this song is a surprise- but now that I have heard the whole thing- a good one. Gotta say that I was fully expecting an R & B type song.

David needs a big hit. If this is not it, then I think that radio has blackballed him. He is well over two years past AI. He is an author, is very popular and sells music. He has established his own identy. This should get those hard cord radio cynics attention- I gotta think. Some day I believe that he will have his own production company and label. But until that day- they have an investment- and he has to make money. He has lots of responsiblities. While it was not what I expected- now that I have heard it- I say wow!!!

    • Yes, a little more bass would be nice.

I agree: if this doesn’t get airplay, then nothing will.

  6. this song will definitely have me moving faster on the treadmill! it’s not my favorite genre of music but i’m sure the rest of the album will have take care of that. i’m so proud of david for co-writing this and mixing in sounds from artists that he really likes (i.e., owl city, lights, etc.)

i’m predicting that the next album will start off slower than crush but will ultimately go platinum. wooohooo – go david!

this tweet indicates D’s in dc; that’s where the restaurant is located.

“Dinner @ ThaiTanic-Shrimp Spring Roll $7, Seafood Potpourri $14, David Archuleta from American Idol at the table next to us-PRICELESS.”

  7. Has anyone made an MP3 of the song? I’ve been listening to the AOL link for over an hour and the song has not played.

  8. Just heard SBL on AOL radio! Not quite the Z100 roll out but exciting.
I call SBL a “summer wailer”-that’s when you have too many friends
in one car, sing (and I use the term loosely) at the top of your voices
and create a noise hazard-windows must be open. (Since the 80’s I
have had to have alcohol to do this). Snarkies has instructions for
AOL radio. Hope it’s a hit, and also loving the lower register and key
change. Hope he has time to practice for live performances lots of
    high notes.

    • Yeah, this will be hard to nail live. I hope the new album has less taxing songs. I’m the kind of fan that stops watching a video the moment I sense any strain. It’s ridiculous but I get tense.

Loving the positive reaction of non-fans at other sites. 🙂
