Late to the Party…

Picture 2Being preoccupied with… Oh, I don’t know, LIFE!! (how inconvenient!)… kind of puts me in the position of “catching up” with my other life online here in ArchUniverse.  So, I’m just now getting to see the video and article from MTV news with Jim Cantiello.  And this has got to be the BEST OPENING EVER in a news article:

They don’t come sweeter than David Archuleta. I know Paula Abdul got a lot of flack for saying she wanted to decapitate the boy and dangle his head from her rearview mirror (as a compliment), but after spending time with him this week I know exactly where Paula is coming from. By the end of our hour together, I was looking all over MTV for a hacksaw.

Haha!! Join the club, my friend (but leave his pretty little head alone!).

At least there are still some in the media who know how to make David look cool (as opposed to those who don’t – looking at you, Entertainment Weekly!)

In other news (thanks, Snarkies!), David is attending a Women’s Conference in Utah (heh, don’t you just love local folk, who just want to include their local hero, regardless of whether or not he’s relevant to their event? Unless, the organizers already have a hacksaw handy: Yikes! Be careful, David!).

  1. It’s on YouTube, of course:

  2. haha! It was great wasn’t it?

Now, now HG, let’s not be sexist. haha! Just because he’s not a woman does not mean he cannot speak to women’s issues. Or about issues concerning all people, men and women alike. Right?

Seriously though, I read a LOT of the fansites daily. David has influenced greatly how young girls in the fandom feel about themselves. The respect they have for themselves. And has, by word and example, tuirned them from some pretty distructive behaviors. And how they look at men in general and the respect they should demand for themselves in a relationship. To not settle for being treated badly or without thought. There was a lot of “testifying” going on over on IDF just a couple of weeks ago.

    And the guys, too.

    I think he’s perfect for a women’s conference. haha!

  3. I think I am just going to behave on both topics here… Opposite ends of the spectrum.

Beach weather here so I am out the door soon!

  4. Now, now HG, let’s not be sexist. haha! Just because he’s not a woman does not mean he cannot speak to women’s issues. Or about issues concerning all people, men and women alike. Right?

    Riiiiiiiight. 😉

Although, Dorman, those are really good points, and if David were speaking on those issues, vs. what he is supposed to be speaking on (reaching his dreams and all that), I might actually take this women’s conference more seriously.

  5. I should point that the woman’s conference is a Republican event.

    • Well, that explains why they didn’t request a sensible and more appropriate topic for David to address. Feminists they most surely are not!

      • Exactly! There are some very-wing Republicans at this event.

      • Of course, I would be careful to jump to conclusions about Davd’s politics, based on his acceptance of this invitation. This is the same David who, while he is speaking at a Republican event, also participated in one of the Inaugural balls for President Obama.

David may be socially conservative (but that doesn’t always translate to political conservatism).

For example, I know many African Americans who are extremely conservative on a social and cultural level but would never dream of voting Republican.

      • David has spoken at a few Republican events. I would bet money that if asked, he would say he identifies as Republican and conservative on issues such as same sex marriage and gay rights, abortion, and other issues.

  6. Well, I’ll bow out I guess.

He is speaking on facing your fears. That is neither male or female, Democrat or Replublican.

So I guess he’s either appropriate if we strive to bridge the gaps between these things.

Or inappropriate because of his gender and the political affiliation of the people running the conference.

    OK.

BTW, for disclosure purposes, I’m female and a Democrat.

In other news, Jim Cantiello is supposed to release the “Christmas Sweater” video today. Can’t wait!

    • Dorman, please don’t confuse my snark with other commentary here. Yes, I’m making fun of these local women because their invitation of David was less a “head” choice and more a “loins” choice (that’s right, I said it).

I seriously doubt they were caught up in David’s “political” affiliations (the boy has said he’s never thought much about politics, and I believe him).

  7. Hey! Give those ladies credit. I would invite David to the opening of a martini bar, and let him talk for an hour about why he does not drink, if it would get him there 🙂

HG: Don’t be tardy for the party, don’t be tardy for the party

  8. Comments from Senator Orin Hatch

“Boy, he can have a degree and Ph.D. in philosophy, is all I can say,” Hatch said as Archuleta walked off stage. “I have so much admiration for him, not only for his extraordinary talent, but his strong character and example. It’s a tough business to be in.”

  10. David has spoken at a few Republican events. I would bet money that if asked, he would say he identifies as Republican and conservative on issues such as same sex marriage and gay rights, abortion, and other issues.

Sheesh! Freo, why do you care how he identifies politically? David is wise enough to never let us know, and as fans, I’m not sure we should do a guessing game (or a betting one for that matter) on these hot button issues.

Can’t we just enjoy how cute David looks in sweaters and how gorgeously he sings his songs?

    • I love his music & his character……..that’s about all I care about.

    • I’m a bit lost in this discussion. Is it in poor taste to be a Republican? What if he was? I mean, I’m in the far left spectrum as regards my political beliefs whereas my sister is a right-winger. We still love and respect each other. David isn’t perfect.
