Memories of Family

Curiously, watching this ABC News Radio interview with David is the first time my heart really goes out to him as he’s dealing with his parents’ divorce.

How many times did David say the word “memories”?  I forgot to count.  However, the fact that Christmas for him means memories of family and of home definitely adds a new layer of the heartfelt depth he brings to each song.  Something of a bittersweet narrative (beneath the rosy smile).  Oh David! If I could give you a hug right now, I would! (Of course, what wouldn’t I give to have you show up on my doorstep Christmas morn carolling!)

On another note, it’s amazing how completely 180 David sounds once the interview questions turn to music itself.  No stuttering and struggling to express himself. Nope.  David is completely articulate as he rambles on about songwriting and music production.

  1. His tone also noticeably changed when talking about his dad’s versus his mother’s side of the family.

    • interesting to note……….words right from David

printed in Life Story Magazine 12/19/08
      lower right corner

“what’s funny is I never really talked to my Dad before….” (before Idol)
talking about family relationships in this magazine.

      • No surprise there. From what little I know, Jeff regarded David as a sissy and not “boy” enough, if you know what I mean.

      • freo – well, hmm..if my father took me from music thing to music thing and you never had opportunity to be on a soccer team (something I can see David loving since he loves to run and said that he loved playing street hockey), I don’t see how David got to participate in anything that cost money or took him away on a scheduled basis from moving toward his career in music.

  2. I hope David finds the love of his life, moves away from Utah & starts making his own memories. Just my hope for him. He may have other ideas. lol

  3. Burkey, me, too! I think that Utah drags David down spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. It is oppressive to him. I hope he gets out and finds his own niche. I secretly hope for Nashville.

  4. David missed his radio interview this morning. The DJs got tired of waiting (after waiting for him for almost 50 minutes).

    • And these were nice and friendly DJs.

    • David’s career decisions are none of my business and it doesn’t matter to me whether his songs get radio play or not, but I don’t think it’s a good idea to miss these interviews if you’re aiming for radio play.

    • Oh, well, here’s one radio station that won’t be promoting David in the future.

  5. Uh… did somebody remind David he had an interview this morning? Because, according to his tweets, they’re not even on his radar.

    • from David

To WTMX Chicago, really sorry for the confusion w/ this morning’s interview. I wasn’t aware of what was going on so I hope I can make it up!

      • Poor David! Such a hectic schedule! Where are his peeps to keep him on the straight and narrow?

  6. Jeff Fenster (“Senior Vice President of A&R for the Zomba Label Group. Over the course of his career he has had a hand in discovering some of the biggest artists of our time, such as Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys, and nurturing the career of established veterans like Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin.”)

    Informative video interview

    • Interesting he referred to this Senior Vice President. apparently an industry heavyweight, “my A&R guy” in his tweet, not showing too much deference or reverence. lol

  7. Freo, some day, you really need to reveal more where you’re getting your stories about the inner workings of the Archuleta family. So many innuendos to sift through!

  8. Regarding memories in the context of the divorce revelation: Just the other day I listened to “Somebody Out There” with a new appreciation. I believe David was one of the writers of that song. We don’t know his inspiration, but I was listening to it with Lupe in mind and it kinda choked me up.

I’m glad David has fond memories of family times. Now he can help create new ones. “Christmas from the Heart” is a great addition.

  9. Does anyone know if #ManInCap accompanied David to Nashville and/or New York? I would think an independent meeting with Fenster, if this is what happened, would be a good sign…

    • raelovingangels

not sure who if anyone is in MY- but someone messed up on the schedule. I would think that David would have some kind of electronic calendar he can access from his phone that is shared so that his managers can kep it update. I am sure David will figure out a way to make amends but those radio peple will be talking about it for some time until he does something big to make it up. Not cool for a new artist early in his career…( or anyone for that matter)

    • The DJs were really nice about it, but they sounded disappointed, which is understandable. Of course, they weren’t enthusiastic about giving out tickets to David’s concert any longer. They were talking about the artist to whose concert they will be giving out tickets tomorrow.

  10. HG: the interview focuses on family time and happy
times. After divorce everything changes, including how holidays are celebrated. After my brother’s divorce, holidays and birthdays seemed a bit empty without my sister in law, the mother of my beautiful neices. While she was far from perfect, she was family to me. All of a sudden someone is gone, sort of like a death. Hard not to reflect on the impact to David and his family that he loves so much.

  11. Speaking of memories:

    • This should’ve been on the Christmas album. Perfect.
And I love Winter Song, too with Sara Bareilles and someone else whose name I can’t remembernow. They have the winter, love, and spiritual elements that would’ve brought variety to the album. Why not?
