For Your Consideration

david_vh1

I’m not ready to pat Jive on the back yet for merely submitting David’s name to the Grammy Awards contender list for such illustrious categories as “Best New Artist,” “Record of the Year” (for ALTNOY),  “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” (for ALTNOY), “Song of the Year” (ALTNOY), “Best Pop Album,” and “Album of the Year.”  I have a feeling this is routine for labels to put up all their possible contenders – hence why  a bunch of American Idol artists with records out, including David Cook and Melinda Doolittle, are also in the running for Grammy consideration.

See, this is when I get on the label and/or management for failing to promote ALTNOY on radio.  There was even a sweet little music video that never made it to VH1 or any of the other music video channels.  David’s vocals are impressive on A Little Too Not Over You, and had the song actually caught on in the way “Crush” had, it would have been very easy for David to not only get nominated but actually win one of these categories he’s being entered in the race for.

That said, sometimes the Grammys go against the grain and actually pick quality over popularity every now and then, rather than just selecting the obvious contenders (the ones we hear all over the radio and see all over TV) for Grammy nominations.  Think how the Grammys brought to the limelight artists such as India.Arie, Tracy Chapman, Nora Jones, and Adele (although even these artists got nominated because they had at least one song playing prominently on radio).

We shall see how this all plays out.  If Jive had failed to enter David’s name at all, that to me would have removed all doubts about their support for his artistry.  However, if the Grammys do nominate David for something or – gasp! – all of the categories he’s being considered for, then my faith in the music industry will have been restored.  Because that would mean somebody in their academy is actually listening and discerning that a promising “rising star” is indeed on the rise.  If that happens, I will be giving the praise to the Grammy Awards nominee committee, not Jive.

Besides, if Jive was really working towards building up David as the kind of Grammy-award-winning artist he’s so capable of being, they could have released “Somebody Out There” or “Running” or “Desperate” as singles.  Then, nominating him would have been a no-brainer.

    • “Stockholm Syndrome (SS) can also be found in family, romantic, and interpersonal relationships. The abuser may be a husband or wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, father or mother, or any other role in which the abuser is in a position of control or authority.

It’s important to understand the components of Stockholm Syndrome as they relate to abusive and controlling relationships. Once the syndrome is understood, it’s easier to understand why victims support, love, and even defend their abusers and controllers.”

    • Oh, great. Here we go again… The Christmas album gets a little publicity, and the cap hits the fan.

Didn’t David win Star Search? Didn’t like Arsenio’s disparaging tone about David.

      • Yes, but I think the video goes to show what a liability Jeff is. There are people in the industry who won’t work with David because of Jeff. I think I am expressing what others have already said, though.

      • Sorry, I wasn’t expressing myself very clearly there. I was talking about Arsenio’s comment, not yours.

I totally agree with you. He is a liability. With his name on the Christmas album marketing materials, we will see more (and more and more) news stories and comments of that type.

    • peter

one of the comments under the capvideo:

“Actually, David Archuleta won Star Search. If Arsenio was one of the judges, he should remember that.”

      • When David came back for the “tournament of champions” or what have you, he lost out to a cute little guy, forget his name. Anyway, this was probably Arsenio’s last memory of David in the competition.

Funny how he remembered “Sandy, Utah.”

    • W.O.W.

Seriously, how can anyone deny that Jeff is a huge liability for David at this point???????????????????????????

  2. Actually, Arsenion Hall hosted Star Search; he wasn’t judging. And considering that was like 8 years ago, I could see how someone would forget.

I mean, this was a junior competition of Star Search, not American Idol or Eurovision.

At any rate, this video goes to show that Jeff’s reputation is what it is – now whether or not it’s a liability against David, now, that’s the question.

  3. This article resurfaced today also on a google search. I don’t know if it is 100% accurate, but it is more bad press for David.

Geeze, the comments are very telling themselves.

  4. Oh! Oh! OOOOOOOH!!!!!!!!!

Burkey!! What a horrible resurrection from the graaaaaaaave!!!!!!!!!!

I remember those awful, awful “debates” during David’s run on American Idol.

The subject, of course, is Jeff Archuleta, but the bulk of discussion is all about how “poor David is soooooo abused and how he sooooooo needs to get away from that overbearing bully of a daaaad…”

    Cry. Me. A. River.

#manincap is not a favorite of mine, and God knows he is desperately riding his son’s coattails, but I’m afraid his reputation being what it is, we will end up with countless speculations about David’s “abuse” while everyone conveniently forgets the talent on display.

And this is why #manincap must go. He’s a DISTRACTION no matter how you look at it!

    • such a big distraction……for sure

why oh why did he have to put his name on this Christmas album…….

such a selfish thing to do, now all this baggage will resurface and as you said it takes

the spotlight off from David’s enormous talent.

    • That’s why I was annoyed by Arsenio Hall’s comment. Plus he and the people around him really seemed to enjoy the fact that Jeff is… intense. People who feel threatened by David’s talent, for whatever reason, will use Jeff’s reputation to belittle David.
